Tri4Cure: Team Underwood Foundation

Tri4Cure was the most important fund raiser in 2010 for The Team Underwood Foundation. TUF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding the cause and cure for brain cancers.

Each year more than 200,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. Primary brain tumors comprise approximately 40,000 of these diagnoses.

Brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor cancer death in children under the age of 20, now surpassing acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). They are the second leading cause of cancer death in male adults ages 20-29 and the fifth leading cause of cancer death in female adults ages 20-39.

The Tri4Cure began in Shreveport, La. as a 1 mi. swim, 330 mi. bicycle ride and a 110 mi walk/run to raise money for this cause. After swimmers completed their 1 mi. swim in the Centenary College pool some of the swimmers joined bicyclers to begin the 330 mi. bicycle ride from Shreveport through Texas to Tishomingo, Okla. after arriving in Ok. A few of the swimmers and cyclers joined yet others to complete the triathalon in a 110 mi. walk/run relay. The triathalon was completed in 5 days ending at the Glorietta Baptist Church in Okla. City, Ok. on Labor Day. There were over 200 supporters, family members and friends meeting the participants at the church and many, many donors, friends and volunteers who helped us reach our goals along the way this year. Our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who participated in any way whatsoever. We very much appreciate all our supporters throughout this event!
